The Fix Coming For Some Honda CR-Vs
The Honda CR-V is one of the most popular models from the carmaker, but lately, some drivers have been having problems with its engine, specifically, the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. However, Honda drivers can rest easy on the road ahead knowing that there’s already a fix in the works, according to Honda representative Chris Martin.
Martin explained in an interview with Car and Driver that the issue tends to impact 2017 and 2018 CR-V cars that are making short trips in cold areas. With winter coming, this is something to note. However, this isn’t going to lead to a recall, as Martin mentioned that Honda wasn’t able to find that the issue caused any impact on the vehicle’s safety.
So, if it’s enough of an issue for people to notice, but not enough to warrant a recall, what exactly is going on? According to Martin, the issue largely stems from a set of circumstances that can cause the oil level to rise over time as it gets diluted with unburned gasoline. In these cold, short, trips, the fuel doesn’t burn out of the oil as it goes through the combustion chamber, leading to an increase in the oil level.
Because this doesn’t necessarily impact safe operation, Honda recommends that drivers visit their dealer and get an inspection if they think this issue impacts them. In addition, they already have plans to fix this problem ahead of time for the 2019 CR-V.
